Welcome to NYC!

My mom and sista arrived in NYC for the 1st time last week and I'm super sad to see them go this morning as they headed home with their luggage full of shopping bags and shoes(a Singaporean "cultural" habit). It was wonderful for them to fly thousands of miles just to help out with my so-called "confinement month" after the baby is born except that I was also playing tour guide and shopping guide I can be hardly called "confined"(most mothers in SG are supposed to be confined at home for 1 month min. after the baby is born for recovery). We were fattened up with delicious home-cooked meals every day and now I'm at a loss at what to eat for lunch or dinner after mom left. Thank you mom and sis for helping out at home, we really appreciate it!

An intimate Sunday Jazz Night out at SMOKE...
Before my sis left, we brought her out for a taste of NY's jazz scene at a small and cozy live jazz joint at Upper West Side where we used to live and invited Kim and Dan along for some groovin'. This small joint here serves amazing Coq au Vin and Prince Edward mussels steeped in white wine while you absorb some jazz into your blood system. Amazing food for a jazz joint, I must say!

Restaurant Week at Petrossian Restaurant...
While mom and sis babysit, we headed out for NYC's Restaurant Week at the famous Petrossian restaurant. Emmanuel has always wanted to try out the branch in Paris but never got the chance so there we went! Famous for its fine caviar and foie gras... mmm-mmm-mmm....!!! Service and attention of the staff was immaculate and the flavours of each dish was finely calculated to make tiny gasps of orgasm escape our lips with each bite...mmm-mmm-mmm... The duck confit and hanger steak entrees were simply amazing...mmm-mmm-mmm!!!

The foie gras was exceptional melt-on-your-tongue type...mmm-mmm-mmm... The chestnut mousse dessert was sensational. We left royally satiated. The restaurant is housed in the historic Alwyn Court Building which is ornately decorated every inch with stone carvings of obelisks and what nots. Charming. Apparently, this exquisite restaurant was importing most of the caviar to America back in the 40's. Rating: 8/10. Good choice of restaurant, mon amour! =)
